Law Reform Guru Joins Frenkel Topping Group
‘The Lawyer’s Lawyer’ Prof Dom Regan to lead FTG clients through ‘constant world of reform’
Professor Dominic Regan – described as ‘the authority on all my reforms’ by Sir Rupert Jackson – has joined Frenkel Topping Group as Director of its training and insight division.
Professor Regan began working with the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence firm in 2021 following a surge in interest in the firm’s KnowledgeHub courses as law firms looked to virtual training to continue their CPD hours during the Covid-19 lockdowns.
FTG announced Regan’s permanent position as KnowledgeHub Director as major reforms continue to impact the group’s client base of UK law firms.
Richard Fraser, Frenkel Topping Group CEO, said: “The law firms we work with have benefitted hugely from having exclusive access to Professor Dom whose knowledge of law reform is truly unrivalled. We have built Frenkel Topping Group on expertise and providing a premium service to our professional clients. Professor Regan embodies all of our values and we are honoured to have a Professor of his calibre in our Leadership Team.”
Professor Regan is a renowned speaker, columnist and adviser, described as ‘the leading expert in the field of civil procedure and adviser to the top Judiciary on law reform’ by HHJ Simon Brown KC.
The firm’s KnowledgeHub suite delivers training to lawyers in areas including Pension Loss, Loss of Earnings, Investing for the Vulnerable and Trusts for Minors. Under Professor Regan’s direction it will grow its schedule of events covering themes on which he is an undisputed authority, including civil procedure, law reform and costs.
Professor Regan said: “FTG’s lawyer clients are operating in a constantly-changing world of reform. Education is so very important to keep up with what is going on. Errors can hurt you and errors can hurt your client. It is fantastic that Frenkel Topping Group is supporting my work in sharing my knowledge with the legal community.”
Known for his ability to explain anything to anyone and being close to all of the significant law reforms, Regan is a passionate supporter of innovation in the industry such as Frenkel Topping’s involvement in the first ever structured settlement in UK legal history in the case of Kelly vs Dawes in 1989.
The case acted as a catalyst with Frenkel Topping creating a further four in 1990, followed by 300 in 1991, and from there the model became ubiquitous.
Regan continued: “The great litigator and my good friend Tony Parkinson worked with Frenkel Topping to secure the first ever structured settlement in an injury case. That took ingenuity and wisdom. Awareness comes from listening to professionals be they doctors, accountants or lawyers.”
Frenkel Topping Group has completed a number of acquisitions in recent years, expanding its reach into the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence market and providing an end-to-end service to its clients.
